Current FundraisingMarch 20, 2010Dear Friends, We need your support to launch what is the most significant and comprehensive restoration effort to date at the McAdam Railway Station. This is an exciting time for our National Treasure, and as you are aware, we are a community proud of our heritage. The McAdam Railway Station was once the hub of the Canadian Pacific Railway in Eastern Canada. At its peak, 16 passenger trains passed through McAdam on a daily basis, linking both people and freight to destinations throughout Canada and the United States. The restoration of this magnificent Canadian icon, the McAdam Railway Station, is critical to preserving the history of rail in Canada. Through grit and determination the citizens of McAdam, and supporters such as yourself, kept the Station open and provided us with a vision to clearly see future economic opportunities return to our community. Our Station will once again be the centerpiece of a bustling rail centre. In McAdam we are building on our heritage to develop our future.Your citizenship and friendship is significant to preserving over 100 years of railroading history in McAdam. Many like you possess a valued and treasured association with the McAdam Railway Station. There is surely a special chapter or two in its history that is known only to you, your family, and in all likelihood, your circle of good friends. During the past three years the McAdam Historical Restoration Commission (MHRC) completed several restoration projects. We completed roof repairs and successfully executed several emergency interventions to stop future deterioration. Recently, the ground floor level of the Station was renovated room by room with the Lunch Counter, Dining Room, Telegraph Office and Hotel Lobby (now re-named the Maxwell Room) fully restored to reflect their original design and function.Even with these impressive accomplishments completed, there remains much more to undertake to return this magnificent icon to its former grandeur. The challenges are immense, but we are encouraged by recent good news.Today, the MHRC finds itself in a position to realize $760,000.00 of Federal and Provincial funding to further restore our National Historic Site. In order to leverage these significant funds, the Commission must raise one-fifth matching dollars, in the amount of $150,000.00 as its share of the nearly $1M contribution. The dollars being offered will result in the largest restoration effort ever undertaken to date. With $1M dollars we will complete restoration of the ground floor level and rebuild the entire character-defining canopy that gives the McAdam Railway Station its unique designation as one of the last remaining hotel-rail station combinations left in Canada. We are asking for your financial support to help us raise the $150,000.00 needed in order to cost-share this significant restoration effort. To learn how you can help us in this restoration effort please read the flyer " I Wish to Help". Please help us with this magnificent project by becoming a benefactor to the restoration effort at the McAdam Railway Station. Thank you for your consideration - it is our hope that you find it worthy of your support. Sincerely, Frank M.
